India’s freshwater stocks in danger: NASA

Researchers have found India is among the world’s major hotspots which has seen a serious decline in the availability of freshwater.

The study, published in the journal Nature, found that wet land areas are turning wetter and dry areas are turning drier due to different reasons, including human water management, climate change and natural cycles.

Areas in northern and eastern India, the Middle East, Australia and the US state of California are among the major areas where overuse of water resources has led to a serious decline in the availability of freshwater.

Freshwater levels decrease was also seen in Saudi Arabia, that indicating the agricultural compressions.

While, the water loss in some regions like the melting ice-sheets and alpine glaciers is evidently driven by global warming, however, it may take extra time and information to determine the driving forces behind other patterns of fresh-water alterations.
