Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma launched Vidya Rath-School on Wheels project. It aims to provide access to underprivileged children to elementary education for 10 months.

After 10 months, the children will be integrated into the usual system of education. Students will be offered free mid-day meals, uniforms, and textbooks under the project.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, launched “SMILE-75 Initiative”, under ‘SMILE: Support for Marginalised Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise’.

The Ministry has identified 75 Municipal Corporations to implement rehabilitation of persons engaged in the act of begging. The Ministry has allocated a total budget of Rs.100 crore for the SMILE project for up to 2025-26.

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav announced the Central Govt accepted the proposal of the Tamil Nadu forest department to notify 1,197.48 sq km area of land in Agasthyamalai as an elephant reserve.

It is the fifth elephant reserve of the state of Tamil Nadu as Nilgiris-Eastern Ghat, Nilambur Silent Valley in Coimbatore, Srivilliputhur and Anamalai are the four existing elephant reserves in the state. In total, India has 31 elephant reserves.

As per the report, India is home to 18 of the 20 cities with the most severe increase in fine particle pollutants (PM2.5) from 2010 to 2019. Delhi has the highest average level of fine PM 2.5 among the world’s most populated cities.

Durand Cup

The 2022 Durand Cup is the 131st edition of Durand Cup, the oldest football tournament in Asia, and also the first edition since it got recognised by Asian Football Confederation.

This year for the first time the tournament will be played in more than one venue.

The tournament is hosted by the Durand Football Tournament Society in co-operation with the Eastern Command of the Indian Armed Forces and the Govt of West Bengal, and supported by the Govt of Assam and the Govt of Manipur.

This is the first season of the tournament wherein every club in the top tier Indian Super League has been mandated to participate, along with 5 selected clubs from the I-League, and the four teams representing the armed forces.
