India & Central Asian nations back inclusive Afghan peace process
  • India and the five Central Asia nations of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan backed an inclusive peace process in Afghanistan. Afghan-owned and Afghan-led following the first ever India-Central Asia Dialogue.
  • External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj co-chaired the Dialogue that was also attended by the Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan and the First Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan.
  • The countries agreed to promote inclusive an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned peace process and reconciliation and to assist in economic reconstruction of Afghanistan through the implementation of joint infrastructure, transit and transport, energy projects including regional cooperation and investment projects.
  • India plays a significant role as a development aid partner in Afghanistan.

China, India keen on joint ventures for e-vehicles
  • China and India, the world’s two largest greenhouse gas emitters, are keen on joint ventures in manufacturing electric vehicles as companies from both countries expressed the view at a three-day event in Beijing.
  • India’s leading automakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Tata, TVS and industry associations participated at the 5th China EV100 Forum in Beijing where e-vehicle manufacturing firms from across the world were present.
  • The event was organised by China EV100, a private electric vehicle association of over 200 leading Chinese electric mobility industries.
  • Anil Srivastava, Principal Advisor at NITI Aayog, headed the Indian delegation, Srivastava talked about India’s policy for the promotion of electric mobility, the current state of play and future roadmap including India’s ambitious goal of electric mobility by 2030.
  • He mentioned that EV industries of both countries should have more interaction and proposed to establish a formal interaction mechanism between them.
  • He also proposed to the two sides to hold a meet in the first half of this year in Beijing to explore cooperation possibilities between their firms.

India’s biggest startup incubator opens in Kochi
  • Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the country`s biggest startup incubator, Integrated Startup Complex.
  • The Integrated Startup Complex, set up under the Kerala Startup Mission (KSM), has ultra modern facilities, like “Maker Village” dedicated to promotion of hardware startups, “Bionest” for promoting medical technologies.
  • BRINC which is the country`s first international accelerator for hardware startups, BRIC which aids developing solutions for cancer diagnosis and care, and a Centre of Excellence set up by the industry majors.
  • Kerala government is working for the state to have a total area of 2.3 crore sq.ft of IT space (up from 1.3 crore sq.ft last year) and also planning to give direct jobs to 2.5 lakh in IT.
