Delhi Govt approves subsidy on electricity for farmers
  • The Delhi Cabinet approved a proposal to give farmers a subsidy of Rs 105 per kilowatt on the fixed charge of electricity given under the agriculture connection in the national capital.
  • The farmers will have to pay Rs 20 per KW on the fixed charge, which was till now Rs 125 per KW. If a farmer has an electricity metre of 10 kilowatts to run a tubewell, he has to pay a minimum of Rs 1,250 per month.
  • The charge increase with the increase in the kilowatt. This is excluding the charges we have to pay for usage.

Himachal Pradesh signs MoUs to attract investment
  • Himachal Pradesh signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with 159 companies that will attract an investment of over Rs 17,000 crore and provide employment opportunities to 40,000 people.
  • Three MoUs were signed with PSUs (public sector undertakings) for an investment of Rs 1,115 crore.
  • 88 MoUs for the Department of Industries for Rs 5,243 crore, 36 for the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation for Rs 2,810 crore, 17 for the Department of Urban Development for Rs 4,332 crore and Five MoUs for the Department of Transport for an investment of Rs 2,780 crore.
  • The new industrial policy aims to establish state-of-the-art infrastructure, promote the manufacturing sector, enhance inclusivity, foster innovation and create employment opportunities across the sectors.

The current Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh is Jai Ram Thakur and Kaptan Singh Solanki is the Governor of the state.

Assam CM Sonowal inaugurates 9 MW Myntring hydroelectric project
  • Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the 9 MW Myntring small Hydro Electric Power Project stage-I at Terenglangso. Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGCL) has commissioned this project tapping the flow of river Myntring at its upper course.
  • APGCL constructed Stage-I and Stage-II of 8 MW hydro electric project on Myntring River in Myntring (Terenglangso) in West Karbi Anglong district.
  • The Stage-I plant was set up with a capacity of 2×3.0 MW while, the Stage-II was constructed for production of 1.5×1.5 3MW.

India test fires Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile
  • India successfully test-fired short-range Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM) off Odisha coast.
  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) test-fired two missiles from a test facility at Chandipur in Balasore district.
  • The missiles were fired from a canister mounted on a rotatable truck-based launch unit, said sources.
  • The missile has a strike range of about 30 km, is capable of killing aerial targets, tanks and bunkers, sources added.
  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is an agency of the Government of India, charged with the military’s research and development, headquartered in New Delhi, India. It was formed in 1958 by the merger of the Technical Development Establishment and the Directorate of Technical Development and Production with the Defence Science Organisation. It is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

Delhi Police launches automated traffic management system
  • The Delhi Police, in collaboration with Maruti Suzuki, launched the first-of-its-kind completely automated traffic management system that does everything from violation-capturing to issuance of an e-challan without human intervention.
  • The new system, comprising sophisticated 3-D radars and more than 100 high resolution cameras, has been installed on nine signals along a 14-km high traffic density stretch between Dhaula Kuan and Sarai Kale Khan on the Ring Road.
  • The cameras – with Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD), Speed Violation Detection (SVD), Stop Line Violation detection, Wrong-Side Violation detection and registration number of the violating vehicle capabilities — automatically encrypt and transfer the data to a centralised server at the Delhi Traffic Police Headquarters in Todapur, near Naraina.
  • The system generates e-challans along with photo evidence and sends it to the violators through SMS/email/post.
  • It is also capable of doing data-analytics and generating trend reports for monitoring of system effectiveness and efficiency.
  • The initiative aims to provide a safe driving experience to motorists, help pedestrians in crossing the road safely and improve compliance with road traffic rules, thereby reducing accidents and fatalities at junctions.

ISRO to launch defence satellite for DRDO
  • The Indian space agency will launch an electronic intelligence satellite Emisat for the DRDO, 28 third party satellites and also demonstrate its new technologies like three different orbits with a new variant of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) rocket.
  • The main passenger for the PSLV rocket will be the defence intelligence satellite Emisat belonging to Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
  • The satellite weighs about 420 kg. The 28 satellites belonging to our customers would cumulatively weigh about 250 kg.
  • The DRDO’s Emisat is an electronic intelligence satellite.

  • The establishment of ISRO thus institutionalised space activities in India. It is managed by the Department of Space, which reports to the Prime Minister of India.
