Union Cabinet  approved three-year extension of National Commission for Safai Karmacharis
  • The Union Cabinet approved a three-year extension of tenure for the National Commission for Safai Karmacharis (NCSK) beyond March 31.
  • The tenure of the Commission, established in 1993 initially for the period upto March 31, 1997, was extended from time to time and was to end on March 31 this year.
  • The government said that the major beneficiaries of the proposal would be the safaikaramcharis and persons engaged in manual scavenging in the country since the panel would work for their welfare and uplift.

Patna Metro rail project cleared by Center
  • The Union Cabinet cleared a metro rail project for the city to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 13,365.77 crore.
  • The project envisages two metro rail corridors i.e. Danapur to Mithapur, and the Patna Railway Station to New Inter-state Bus Terminus (ISBT).
  • The project would be completed in five years. The length of Danapur to Mithapur corridor is 16.94 km and comprises of 11 stations. The length of Patna Station to New ISBT corridor is 14.45 km comprising of 12 stations.

Union Cabinet  approved to add several new tribes in the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs) of Chhattisgarh
  • The Union Cabinet approved a proposal for official amendments in The Constitution (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill that seeks to add several new tribes in the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs) of Chhattisgarh
  • The Bill seeks to add to the list tribes like Bhuinya, Bhuiyan, Bhuyan, Dhanwar, Dhanuhar, Dhanuwar, Nagesia, Nagasia, Kisan, Oraon, Dhanka, Dhangad, Sawar, Sawara, Saunra, Saonra and Binjhia.
  • After the Bill becomes an Act, members of the communities newly-listed in the revised list will also be able to derive benefits meant for Scheduled Tribes under the existing schemes of the government.
