India and Monaco to enhance cooperation in climate change and renewable energy
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Monaco’s ruler, Prince Albert II, with the two exchanging views on enhancing cooperation, especially in environment and climate change and renewable energy.
  • Prince Albert, who is on his first official visit to India, met the Prime Minister at Hyderabad House here and the two leaders agreed identified infrastructure as an area with vast potential to establish linkages.
  • It was also announced that a visa waiver will be granted to Monaco diplomat passport holders for visiting India and the officials from both sides will be working to finalise this agreement.
  • India and Monaco established diplomatic relations in 2007, though the friendship goes back much further in time.
  • The two leaders discussed ways to expand the multi-faceted partnership in areas of mutual interest.
  • It was agreed that there is a vast potential for establishing linkages especially in the mutually beneficial area of infrastructure development
  • India and Monaco have shared interest in tackling climate change and use of ocean resources along with commitment for sustainable growth.

Oppo signs MOU with Telangana
  • Chinese smartphone player Oppo signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telangana government to support and develop the startup ecosystem in the state.
  • As part of the agreement, Oppo would provide technical expertise and mentoring support to startups helping the government create a supportive startup ecosystem for working in camera and image processing, battery, networks (5G), system performance, payments, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and gaming.
  • The company would also provide market access to chosen startups by Alpha/Beta testing their offerings with the “Oppo Color Operating System (OS)” community and helping them with feedbacks.
  • The startups would be selected on the basis of the solutions they provide towards key problems faced by Indian mobile users, with the intention of using their idea, application, technology or service to help enhance consumer experience.

India successfully launched the communication satellite GSAT-31
  • India’s 40th communication satellite GSAT-31 was successfully put into orbit by an Ariane 5 rocket belonging to Arianespace.
  • The telecommunication satellite, GSAT-31 was successfully launched from Kourou launch base, French Guiana by Ariane-5.

FACTFILE – GSAT-31

  • The 2,535-kg GSAT-31 would augment the Ku-band transponder capacity in geostationary orbit.
  • GSAT-31, with a mission life of 15 years, will be used for supporting VSAT networks, television uplinks, digital satellite news gathering, DTH television services, cellular back haul connectivity and more.
  • The GSAT-31 will provide continuity to operational services on some of the in-orbit satellites
  • The two Ku-band beacon downlink signals are transmitted by the satellite for ground tracking purpose
  • GSAT-31 was the 23rd ISRO satellite orbited by Arianespace and Ariane-series launchers, tracing the relationship back to India’s APPLE small experimental communications spacecraft, lofted in 1981 by an Ariane 1 version.

Government plans to launch ease of doing agri-business index
  • The government is planning to launch an index to rank states on the basis of ‘ease of doing agri-business’.To develop a competitive spirit between the states to ensure that the reform agenda of the government was implemented at a desired pace.
  • Keeping this in mind to rank the states through an Index i.e. Ease of Doing Agri-Business, a concept note along with parameters for developing an Index has been circulated to all States/UTs inviting their views.
  • The concept is to consider farming not solely as a production-oriented activity carried out to achieve food security for the country, but as a business activity carried out by farmer as entrepreneur.
  • The proposed index has taken the aspects of increasing production/productivity, increasing price realisation of agri produce and decreasing input costs of production, risk mitigation and investment related attributes.
