India opens human space flight centre in Bengaluru
  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched a Human Space Flight Centre at ISRO headquarters in Bengaluru.
  • The Centre is dedicated to developing critical technologies for human space missions.
  • The ISRO aims to send humans to space by December 2021 through its Gaganyaan mission.
  • A full-scale Gaganyaan crew module model was also unveiled at the Centre.
  • R. Hutton, who was the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) Director, will be heading the Gaganyaan project.

Vice-Admiral Ajit Kumar P. new Western Naval Command Chief
  • Vice-Admiral Ajit Kumar P. a missiles specialist, took over as the new Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command (WNC) of the Indian Navy. He succeeded Vice-Admiral Girish Luthra who attained superannuation after an illustrious career spanning nearly four decades with the Indian Navy.
  • An alumnus of the Sainik School, Kazhakootam in Kerala, and National Defence Academy, Pune in Maharashtra, Vice-Admiral Ajit Kumar P. was commissioned in the Indian Navy on July 1, 1981.
  • A missiles and gunnery specialist, he has served onboard frontline warships of both the Indian Navy and abroad.  Immediately prior to his new appointment, Ajit Kumar P. was the Vice-Chief of Naval Staff, Naval Headquarters, New Delhi.

Women in Nature Network to host 4th global event in Guwahati
  • Women in Nature Network’s (WiNN) India Chapter has been chosen to host the 4th Annual Global Networking Event 31. The inaugural event that took place was attended by Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi.  The theme of the event is ‘Empowering women for nature conservation: Connecting and inspiring women globally’.

  • The Women in Nature Network (WiNN) was founded in 2013 by 14 international conservation leaders with decades of experience in nature conservation and natural resource management.
  • It was established to build connections between women around the world to enhance their abilities to manage their natural resources and to protect the natural environment.
  • WiNN is working to develop a global learning community of women in order to create and support a future generation of environmental leaders.​
