Assam Govt Revises Wages for Private Security Agency Workers

Assam government has revised the minimum wages payable to employees or workers employed under private security agencies, an official release said. According to a notification issued by the Labour Welfare Department, the state government, after consultation with the Minimum Wages Advisory Board, has revised the minimum wages of employees. The revised minimum wages of a security officer is Rs 18,700, supervisor Rs 15,600, gunman (armed) Rs 13,700 and Security Guard (Unarmed) Rs 10,700.


Zero Discrimination Day on 1st March

Zero Discrimination Day was observed on march 1st all over the world.

The first Zero Discrimination Day was celebrated on 1st March 2014. UNAIDS launched the Zero Discrimination Campaign in December 2013 on World AIDS Day.Zero Discrimination Day is celebrated to stress the right of everyone to be free from discrimination. Discrimination is faced by people all over the world based on gender, sexual orientation or age, etc.


World Rare Disease Day Conference 2018 at New Delhi

JP Nadda, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare inaugurated the World Rare Disease Day Conference 2018 in New Delhi.

World Rare Disease Day is celebrated on the last day of February every year. World Rare Disease Day was first introduced by EURORDIS and its council of National Alliances in 2008.

The theme for World Rare Disease Day 2018 is “Research”. World Rare Disease Day 2018 was observed on 28th February 2018.This day is observed to create awareness among public about rare diseases and their impact.


UDAY scheme joined byLakshadweep

The Union Territory of Lakshadweep and the Government of India signed a MoU under the UDAY (Scheme Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana) Scheme. This will ensure operational turnaround of Lakshadweep’s Electricity Department.

Lakshadweep will receive an overall net benefit of around Rs. 8 crore through the UDAY SchemeThis will be achieved by cheaper funds, reduction in AT&C (Aggregate Technical and Commercial) losses, interventions in energy efficiency, etc.The Central Government will help Lakshadweep in improving Power infrastructure which will result in further reduction of the cost of power.


“T App Folio” app – launched by Telangana

Telangana government launched “T App Folio”, a mobile governance application, for delivery of government to citizen (G2C) and business to citizen (B2C) services anytime and anywhere.Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao said that, Telangana has become the second state in India to launch a mobile governance application in place for provision of G2C services.

T App Folio provides more than 150 services like MeeSeva services, RTA services, fee payments and bill payments, in the first phase. Informational services like MeeSeva centers, Ration shops, Hy-Fi hotspots are also available in the first phase of T App Folio.T App Folio will act as a platform to bring together all government departments. It has been launched in Telugu and English languages.


Moon to get first mobile phone network

The moon is about to get its first mobile phone network in 2019.Vodafone has appointed Nokia as its technology partner. Nokia would develop a space-grade network. PTScientists, a Berlin-based company, is also working on this project. A launch has been scheduled in 2019 from Cape Canaveral on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. It has been decided to build a 4G network, as work on the advanced 5G network is still in testing and trial stage.

World’s largest solar park Shakti Sthala opened in Karnataka

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated ‘Shakti Sthala’ a solar power park with 2,000 megawatt capacity at Pavagada in Tumakuru district of Karnataka. The Shakti Sthala is built on an area of 13,000 acres. It was set up at a cost of Rs 165 billion.It generated 600 MW power as of January 2018. Additional 1,400 MW would be generated by December 2018.Karnataka Energy Minister D. K. Shivakumar said that, farmers of the Pavagada region who have leased out land

for the park are partners and beneficiaries of Shakti Sthala. Around 2,300 farmers are part of this project. They have rented their lands for Rs 21,000 per acre per annum. Siddaramaiah said that, Karnataka has become the third-largest producer of renewable energy in India.


India, Russia, Bangladesh sign pact – Rooppur Atomic Plant

India, Russia and Bangladesh signed a tripartite agreement which allows Indian firms to participate in construction and installation works in the “non-critical” category for the Rooppur nuclear power plant project in northwest Bangladesh.

The MoU was signed in Moscow by Deputy Director General of Rosatom (Russia’s Apex civil nuclear body) Nikolay Spassky, Indian Ambassador to Russia Pankaj Saran and ambassador of Bangladesh in Russia S.M. Saiful Hoque. Rosatom is constructing two nuclear reactors (with a capacity of 1200 MW each) in Rooppur, which will be Bangaladesh’s first nuclear power project.

 As per the terms of the MoU, Indian companies can participate in construction and installation works, supply of materials and equipment of a non-critical category for Rooppur Atomic Plant.Besides, the three countries will cooperate in the field of personnel training and mentoring, exchange of experience and provision of consulting support.


Centre approves Rs 2900 crore to make cities safer for women

Central Government approved projects worth Rs 2919.55 crore under the ‘Nirbhaya Fund’ for eight major cities of India, in order to make them safer for women.The projects have been approved for Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad Ahmedabad and Lucknow.

In Delhi, the projects include, deploying latest technologies, such as video monitoring, facial recognition analytics and tracking of people. One of the projects which will be implemented in Mumbai is strengthening the “Police Didi” programme, under which women police personnel interact with women living in slums. More police patrol vans, video surveillance and more woman police outposts are some of the other projects that will be implemented across these eight cities. These projects were approved at a meeting of the Empowered Committee, headed by the secretary of Women and Child Development (WCD). These proposals have been sanctioned for a period of three years. Cost for implementing these projects will be borne by Central and State Government in 60:40 ratio.

Nirbhaya Fund was set up after the brutal gangrape and murder of a paramedical student in Delhi in 2012. It was announced in Union Budget 2013. It is a non-lapsable corpus fund dedicated to support implementation of initiatives for enhancing the safety and security for women in India.


First Mega Food Park in Maharashtra at Satara inaugurated

The first Mega Food Park in Maharashtra, was inaugurated by Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Minister of Food Processing Industries at Degaon village, Satara district of Maharashtra.Satara Mega Food Park is the 12th Mega Food Park put to function in India.

Under the Mega Food Park Scheme, Central Government offers funds up to Rs. 50 Crore for each Mega Food Park project.Ministry of Food Processing Industries is carrying out the Mega Food Park Scheme to improve food processing sector by adding value and reducing food wastage in the supply chain.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that, the Mega Food Park will involve an additional investment of nearly Rs. 250 crores in 25-30 food processing units in the park. It will bring a turnover of around Rs. 450-500 crore every year.The Park will offer direct and indirect employment to 5,000 persons. It will also benefit 25,000 farmers.


Maharashtra government ties up with Wikipedia to promote Marathi

The Maharashtra government has partnered with Wikipedia, to spread the Marathi language and enhance its online usage. Maharashtra government made this announcement on Marathi language day (27th February 2018). It is aimed to spread the Marathi language across the world.It will also offer Marathi-speaking people a single platform to interact. It would also help to reach Maharashtrians who have migrated to the United States.
