Assam proposes Insurance Scheme for Jounalists

The state government of Assam has suggested an insurance plan for journalists and their families in its budget for 2018-19. The news was given by Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during the presentation of state’s budget in the assembly on March 13th, 2018. Sarma informed that the state has reserved a budget distribution of Rupees 63 crores in 2018-19 for the Information and Public Relations Department that would device plans for media persons.The new Journalist Insurance Plan would make sure security and fortification of the journalists including their families.


Finland is World’s happiest country and India ranks 133 in World Happiness Report

Finland is the world’s happiest country andIndia was ranked at 133 in the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network’s (SDSN) 2018 World Happiness Report.

Finland, rose from fifth place last year to oust Norway from the top spot. The United States came in at 18th, down from 14th place last year. Britain was 19th and the United Arab Emirates 20th.


World Consumer Rights Day celebrated globally

World Consumer Rights Day was observed across the globe. This is an annual event which is observed with an aim to promote basic rights of consumers and to ensure that these rights are respected and protected.Theme of World Consumer Day 2018 was “Making Digital Marketplaces Fairer”. Several events were organised across India and world. National Consumer Day is observed on 24th December every year.


3 days Krishi Unnati Mela at New Delhi

The Three-day annual Krishi Unnati Mela will be organized between March 16 and March 18, 2018 at Pusa New Delhi. The event aims to create nationwide awareness about the latest agricultural technological developments and receive feedback from the agricultural community that will help in designing and shaping the future research strategy of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).


Physicist Stephen Hawking Passed away at the age of 76 yrs

Renowned physicist Stephen Hawking passed away. He was 76 years old. Stephen Hawking was born on 8th January 1942. He was diagnosed with life-threatening ALS disease in 1963 but still he went to Cambridge University to study Cosmology. His theories on Big Bang and Black Holes were most notable among other.

He wrote “A Brief History of Time” which was bestseller. This book explains complex theories to common man. Also based on this book film was made which eventually won Oscar. After being diagnosed with life threatening disease, doctors said that he will survive for 2 more years only. But he lived more than 50 years with disease and still giving so much to society in terms of work and guidance.

Indian Science Congress inaugurated by PM in Manipur University

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the five-day Indian Science Congress at the Manipur University in Imphal. 

This was the second Science Congress in the North-East in the last 100 years. Over 5,000 invitees are taking part, including 2,000 research scholars and scientists.


$120 mn Loan Agreement for improving Indian rail infrastructure

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $120 million loan agreement with India to improve operational efficiency of Indian railways by double-tracking and electrification of tracks along high-density corridors.

The loan is part of the $500 million multi-tranche financing facility for railway sector investment programme approved by the ADB board in 2011.The loan amount will be used to complete the ongoing works commenced under earlier tranches.


Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai among Cheapest cities in the World

Three Indian cities New Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai are among the cheapest cities in the world, according to an Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) survey.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) survey, named Singapore as the most expensive city.Bangalore, Chennai, Karachi and New Delhi featured among the 10 cheapest locations surveyed.


Maharashtra bans on plastic carry bags

The state cabinet approved the environment department’s proposal to ban plastic carry bags and certain other items in Maharashtra.The ban was earlier set to come into effect on Gudi Padwa, but now it looks like it will be enforced by the month-end with the issue of a notification.The ban covers disposable plastic cups, plates, spoons and flex, but excludes garbage bin liners and PET bottles.

The highlight of the ban is that both manufacturers and users will be penalized.
