Govt launched Suvidha (Biodegradable sanitary pads) at Rs. 2.50 on Women’s day

The government launched a biodegradable sanitary pad ‘Suvidha‘ on International Women’s Day. The oxo-biodegradable sanitary pads priced at Rs. 2.50 per pad will be available at Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi centres.

The sanitary pads will be available in packs of four across 3200 centres and each pack will be priced at Rs. 10.


Virat Kohli is Uber India’s first brand ambassador

Popular ridesharing app Uber announced the appointment of Indian skipper Virat Kohli as its first brand ambassador in India, thus embarking on a first-of-its-kind initiative across the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.


46th Edition of ‘Know India Programme’ to be organized in Madhya Pradesh

KIP is an initiative of the Government of India aimed at engaging and making students and young professionals of Indian diaspora in the age group of 18 to 30 feel a sense of connect with their motherland, motivating and inspiring them by transformational changes taking place in India and giving them an exposure to various aspects of contemporary India’s forms of art, heritage and culture. This is the 46th edition of the programme. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are the Partner States previously but this time Madhya Pradesh is the partner state for this edition of the programme.

FACTFILE - Know India Programme
  • Know India Programme is a government initiative by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India for the Indian diaspora (excluding NRIs) between the age group of 18 to 30 years.
  • It was launched on January 8, 2014, on the occasion of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in New Delhi.
  • The purpose of the Know India Programme is to help Persons of Indian Origin youths familiarize with their roots and contemporary India and provide them an exposure to the country of their origin. From 2016, six KIPs a year are being organised.
  • KIP is organized by the Ministry of External Affairs.

MSME launched Udayam Sakhi  Portal

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Ministry launched a portal called Udyam Sakhi  which aims to bring aspiring business women and their possible mentors together on one platform so that they could be hand-held through the process of setting up and running an enterprise.

“The mentors or Udyam Sakhis should have the will to share voluntarily their knowledge with other women and help them create value through entrepreneurship. The Ministry would provide basic minimum resources as to support them from using their own spendings.

NABARD sanctioned Rs 336 crore to Arunachal under RIDF

National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs 33,619.50 lakh to Government of Arunachal Pradesh under its Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) during 2017-18 as against the normative allocation of Rs 25,000 lakh earmarked for the current year.

This year’s sanction for creation of 27 rural infrastructure projects is 132 per cent higher than the last year’s sanction of Rs 25,547.78 lakh towards 21 rural infrastructure projects.The sanctioned fund is for construction of 21 new roads, two bridges, four drinking water supply projects involving NABARD assistance of Rs 27,724.50 lakh, Rs 2,250 lakh and Rs 3,645 lakh respectively, according to an official release here.

FACTFILE - Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF)
  • Government of India created the RIDF in NABARD in 1995-96, with an initial corpus of Rs.2,000 crore. The corpus of the fund is being extended on a year-to-year basis by GoI since then.
  • With the allocation of Rs.25,000 crore for 2017-18 under RIDF XXIII, the cumulative allocation has reached Rs.2,92,500 crore, including Rs. 18,500 crore under Bharat Nirman.
  • Since 1996-97, the sources of deposits from commercial banks have been broad based by including shortfall in achievement of priority sector lending target and /or lending to agriculture and/or lending to weaker sections as on last reporting Friday of March every year.

We-Hub start-up incubator launched by Telangana

The Telangana government has launched a start-up incubator to exclusively promote entrepreneurship among women. The facility was launched on the occasion of International Womens Day.

The incubator, named We-Hub, is the country’s first state-led incubator  exclusively for women entrepreneurs.
