India ranked 109th in Mobile Internet Download speed

India, the largest consumer of mobile data in the world, ranks 109th when it comes to mobile Internet download speeds. The average download speed over the mobile increased to 9.01 mbps in February from the 8.80 mbps in November last year, but the country’s rank continued to stay at 109th, Ookla’s Speedtest index said.

Norway is positioned at the top with an average download speed of 62.07 mbps.

India however, fared better on the fixed broadband front, according to Ookla, with its rank improving to 67. Singapore leads in the fixed broadband front, with a download speed of 161.53 mbps.


India is the 3rd largest electricity producer

With a production of 1,423 billion units in FY 2016, India is the third largest producer and the third largest consumer of electricity in the world, behind China (6,015 billion units) and the United States (4,327 billion units). India is the third largest electricity producer ahead of Russia and Japan.

India’s electricity production grew 34% over seven years to 2017, and the country now produces more energy than Japan and Russia, which had 27% and 8.77% more electricity generation capacity installed, respectively, than India seven years ago.


Surat becomes First District with 100% solar powered health centres

Surat has become the first district in the country to have 100 % solar powered Primary Health Centers (PHC). There are a total of 52 PHCs in the district and all of them are now powered by solar system.This initiative will not only bring down the electricity bill by 40 percent but also help fight global warming.


National 'Water Digest Award' for water conservation to Chhattisgarh state

The Award is presented every year by globally renowned magazine ‘Water Digest’-which focuses mainly on water resources. Chhattisgarh bagged the National ‘Water Digest Award’ for Water Conservation-Diversion and for increasing the irrigation capacity in the State.

This is the first time that Chhattisgarh Water Resources Department had been given national Award during the past 17 years.


India's Economy doubled by 2025

India’s GDP in value terms currently stands at USD 2.5 trillion, making it the sixth largest economy in the world. India is on track to doubling the size of its economy to USD 5 trillion by 2025, the finance ministry said while asserting that the inflation target set by the Reserve Bank will not be breached. The country is well poised to click a growth rate of 7–8 per cent and with focus on start-ups, MSMEs and infrastructure investment it can step on to higher growth pedestal, Economic Affairs Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg said.

India’s first global counter-terrorism centre to open in Jaipur

India’s first global counter-terrorism and anti-insurgency centre will come up in Jaipur on a 50-acre land. Rajasthan home department has identified land for the centre near Bagru town of Jaipur district.

The cost of the centre is estimated to be Rs 275 crores, out of which Centre will bear Rs 165 crore and the state will pitch in with the remaining amount.


Delhi Assembly passed Green Budget to curb pollution

The Delhi Assembly passed the Rs 53,000 crore budget for 2018-19, with a major thrust on green initiatives to combat rising air pollution. Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia asserted that the budget has taken care of all sections of the society. Talking about the budget, Sisodia had on March 22 termed it a “green budget” for effective containment of pollution in the city.
