GSAT-6A communication satellite to be launched by ISRO

The Indian Space Research Organisation will be launch the communication satellite GSAT-6A on March 29. The satellite will be launched on board the GSLV Mk-II (GSLV F08) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 4.56pm on March 29.

This will be the GSLV’s 12th flight and sixth flight with indigenous cryogenic stage. The rocket is set to take off from the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

GSAT-6A, weighs 2140kg, it is a high power S-band communication satellite.It will provide a platform for developing technologies such as 6m S-Band unfurlable antenna, handheld ground terminals and network management techniques useful in future satellite-based mobile communication applications.

GSAT-6 weighing 2132 kg was launched on board GSLV Mk II D6 on August 27, 2015.


India to be third largest tourist economy by 2028

India is on the path to become the third largest travel and tourism economy by 2028 in terms of direct and total GDP.World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has published in it’s 2018 economic impact report.

India will add nearly 10 million jobs in the tourism sector by 2028 and that the total number of jobs dependent directly or indirectly on tourism will increase from 42.9 million in 2018 to 52.3 million in 2028.

Gloria Guevara, president and chief executive of WTTC said the biggest single area of improvement for travel and tourism in India is infrastructure. Regional Connectivity Scheme will open up 350 unserved and underserved airports and airstrips. The government aims to make the country a global cruise destination with a new cruise port in Mumbai.

Rs 1,000 crore Fund to boost R&D in silk

The government will constitute an inter-ministerial committee with a fund of Rs 1,000 crore to promote research & development (R&D) and technology transfer in the silk sector, Textile Minister Smriti Irani said.

Around 50,000 people will be trained. To ensure that R&D is not limited to the textiles ministry, for the first time an inter-ministerial committee is being set up chaired by the Textiles Secretary in which close to Rs 1,000 crore is being provided especially for R&D, technology transfer with the support of other ministries.

Under the ‘Integrated Scheme for Development of Silk Industry’, 50 to 80 per cent of the cost will be borne by the central government if individuals or some states opt for infrastructure development for silk production.

If the beneficiary belongs to SC/ST community, 65 per cent cost will be borne, whereas if the beneficiary is from the North-East, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand or Chhattisgarh, the Centre will bear 80 per cent.

Out of 27 states, which consume and produce silk, only 17 states till now have a dedicated silk department or directorate.

World Tuberculosis Day observed  on 24 march

The theme for the year `2018 is ‘Wanted: Leaders for a TB-free world’. World Tuberculosis Day is observed on 24 March each year, is designed to build public awareness about the global epidemic of tuberculosis (TB) and efforts to eliminate the disease.

In 2012, 8.6 million people fell ill with TB, and 1.3 million died from the disease, mostly in the Third World. World TB Day is one of eight official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization (WHO).


Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot launched First Indian Sign Language Dictionary

The First Indian Sign Language Dictionary of 3000 words” was launched by Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment.The dictionary has been developed by Indian Sign Language Research & Training Centre (ISLR&TC) under Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), M/o Social Justice & Empowerment.


2018 declared as National Year of Millets

The government has decided to declare 2018 as ‘National Year of Millets to boost the cultivation of millets like ragi and jowar on a mission mode to achieve nutritional security. This was stated by Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh while addressing MPs in a consultative committee meeting in New Delhi.

The Minister said millet cultivation has declined due to change in dietary habits and unavailability of millets. As a result of this, level of nutrients like proteins, Vitamin-A, iron and iodine fell in women and children.
